Integrating Technology Across the Curriculum

This course introduces educators to the dimensions of educational technology for teaching and learning. It exposes them to the history of educational technologies as well as their pedagogical and practical implementation. Participants draw upon field-based experiences in real educational settings to plan instructional technology environments that are student-centered, collaborative, inquiry-based and focused on specific curricular goals.

Technology Assessment & Evaluation

This course explores quantitative and qualitative approaches to researching the impact of technology within educational and instructional settings. Participants learn theory and practice of design, development, utilization, management and (formative and summative) evaluation of processes and resources for learning. Participants select an area of inquiry, define a research problem, and collect and interpret preliminary data (3 credits).

The Public Purposes of Education: Democracy & Schooling

This course examines the public purposes of education in our social and political democracy. Participants inquire into the role of schools in fostering the development of democratic principles and practices and examine various curricular designs and pedagogical strategies. Participants also explore the main issues stemming from efforts to teach democratically in public educational institutions. Fieldwork in an assigned urban school will add context to these explorations. (3 credits)

Media Literacy Education through Social Networking
Workshop provides a framework for practicing media literacy education online through the uses of social networking tools to acquire digital literacy skills and understanding of media literacy principles. Includes a tour of a social network as an online classroom where students acquire these digital literacy skills and
enact the core principles of media literacy. Create your own Ning community and customize your media literacy efforts across education, community, and professional contexts.

Participants assist school district or organizational leaders in the systemic design and implementation of a technology plan that is customized for a school or organization’s philosophy, budget, and individual staff needs and abilities.Comprehensive planning considers goals, standards, resources, community structures, school or organization-based support, and staff development. Here's the scenario: You've just learned there are zero funds left this year for professional development and no one in your department wants to train you on that new piece of software. This brief session introduces you to some resources, strategies and techniques to address the common challenges that professionals face when asked to use new(er) technologies in the workplace. Media and Technology Literacies: From Standards to Practice
This hands-on workshop focuses on the construction of standards-based curriculum and supporting uses of technology to achieve educational goals. Participants operationally define the standards and definitions of media literacy and technology literacy from a national (USA) perspective. Participants align and integrate educational standards/goals and media and technology literacies according to the National Educational Technology Standards (ISTE) and relevant state and local standards.[request more information]
